Wood Lathe Stand

I need to start by saying I never had a desire for a wood lathe. I’ve been trained on them in high school and college and have taught my woodworking students to use them on occasion but have never felt the need for one on a personal level.

Keep that in mind when I tell you I bought my wife one for Christmas😏. I mentioned to her a month or so ago that she might enjoy turning and she didn’t balk at it, so I took it as an open invitation.

Anyway, the lathe needed a stand, and I had two red oak slabs that I had dried recently available to use. I started things off with the design using Shapr3D. I tried to add a little form into the function. I was able to use some templates and my mega flush trim bit to complete the curves on the design. I used 1/2” dowels to attach the legs to the runners and some Dominos to attach the feet. After sanding and some hardwax/oil finish the lathe was bolted fast with some bolts from underneath the top.
